If Home Was Home is a series of medium format images shot during recent trips to Vieuxbourg d'Aquin, Haiti. This series emerges from the dialogue I started with myself in Dancing with Myself. I moved from attempting to understand myself outside of my parents home to forcing myself to address the complicated relationship I have with the idea of "home" as a child of the African diaspora, born to Haitian immigrants.
The Ballad of Me & You
The Ballad of Me & You is an ongoing visual conversation on my failures and successes in romantic relationships. I'm searching for light and joy in the reality of broken relationships and existing on my own. Failed relationships are beautiful, complicated, and important part of learning to float into successful partnerships. At the end, they are all some kind of success.
Dancing with Myself
After moving out of a strict, conservative home at 19, I found myself lost, and unwilling to make decisions. Dancing with Myself exists in this point of confusion between adulthood on paper and true adulthood in presence. Dancing within these spaces allowed me to play with the idea of self outside of nurturing environments.
